What Makes Me Come Alive

First of all, let me start off by letting you know that Julie over at The Girl in the Red Shoes is hosting a giveaway where you'll have another chance to win any one of my bracelets from After Sunset! Head on over there to say "hi" and start entering :)

This weekend was one of the best I’ve ever had. Ever. It has proven to me that sunny days will follow the days of heavy rain. When we are patient, try hard, and never give up on what we want and truly believe in, those things will come.

I was very nervous going into this weekend for one main reason – I had signed up for an acting class in DC. Don’t get me wrong, I love to act and always have but I had been out of it for a few years and had no idea what to expect of this class.

I was nervous about little things – what were the other people in the class going to be like? How to get there. How to find the class. And let me tell you – by the end of the day, finding the room number was the most nerve-wracking part of it all. As soon as I walked into the room, I was set. I was ready to learn, ready to act, ready to humiliate myself [because that’s a part of learning AND acting!]

I said “good morning” to the instructor who has been a professional in the industry for a while, found a seat in the middle of the semi-circle, filled out my info sheet, and anxiously awaited the start time of the class. As each minute passed, I felt more and more excited and more and more at home. Class started and we were “interviewed” one-by-one before moving onto a commercial.

It was in those moments of reading the script, figuring out the character, getting up in front of the camera, and becoming this girl Sally that I felt a passion and happiness unlike anything else before. Acting has always been that for me. It’s like there’s a little piece of my soul buried deep in there that nothing else has the power to reach except those moments when I’m living in a world that’s not quite my own. When I have to make myself vulnerable in order to find within me this new character so I can become it. It’s a constant challenge. Every time you run through that script, it could be better, worse, you could have lost touch with your character, or hit it spot on.

I didn’t want the class to end. I could have stayed there all day. Heck, I could have stayed there all day every day. I love it. I live for it. And I can’t even put into words how GOOD and RIGHT it feels to be back in acting.

So, at the end of the day, never give up on the things that make you come alive. No matter what obstacles may make their way into your life – fight them, because what’s on the other side is usually SO worth it. Listen to your heart, follow your passion. Go after the things that MAKE you want to do the BEST. Work harder than you’ve ever worked before for the things you love the most.

What makes you come alive?

I'm so happy for you that you got to do the class! And that you obviously came alive with excitement and being in your element! YAY!

I often wonder what makes me come alive. It's hard for me to pinpoint a passion. I'm working on it. You've got the hamster wheels churning in my head :)

You go girl! Acting is something I could never do, but I have such respect for those who can get up on stage and transform into a different person. If you move back to CA, will you be living in LA to pursue your dream?!
